Reap the Benefits of Raising Min Wage - The Results Are In!"

Yes, raising the minimum wage in California has proven to be helping. Studies have shown that raising the minimum wage in California has improved overall economic well-being, particularly for low-wage workers. After California implemented a $13 an hour minimum wage, there was an increase in wages for affected workers, an improvement in the financial stability of low-wage families, increased employer morale, reduced turnover in affected industries and an increase in consumer spending that stimulated local businesses. Additionally, due to the increased consumer spending associated with the raise, California saw a net benefit to the state’s economy from the minimum wage increase.

Here is some data sources and what they came up with.


1. University of California, Berkeley’s Center for Wage and Employment Dynamics found that, "in states that raised the minimum wage, low-wage workers overall saw larger earnings gains than comparable workers in other states."

2. According to the Economic Policy Institute, in 2018, Oregon’s largest city enacted the nation’s highest minimum wage at $14.75 an hour, and "before and after the increase, employers reported no effects on their business operations, including no negative effects on hours, employment, business closure, or job creation."

3. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Washington and published in the American Journal of Public Health concluded that “employment effects associated with a significant minimum-wage increase were minor, and that wages increased significantly for women and those working in food services and retail.”

4. The National Employment Law Project found that an increase in the minimum wage to $15 an hour had no measurable impact on employment of workers earning the minimum wage.
